completion date, winter 2008. Featuring Chinese artist Zhang Xiaogang
in his Beijing Studio. I was inspired to paint Zhang not because I was
influenced by his paintings, but rather by his personality and unique
appearance. Zhang has the face of an art master and the humble attitude
to match. Sometimes I spend coutless hours researching what my next painting
will be, not really knowing what I will finally decide on. But then I
read an article or see something on tv and the idea clicks in my head
as it did with this piece. I just know in my heart that I have to paint
it. Unless you have been born with the gift of art, you will never understand
this thought process.
